Among the most significant testimonies to its past are the towers, according to documents there are 32 throughout the territory, symbols of power for the families that built them. Among these are the Alberti tower, the one attached to Palazzo Simoni and the Kuerc tower, in Bormio&#8217;s central square. Thanks to its geographical position and architecture, the municipality in the province of Sondrio is reminiscent of fairy-tale landscapes. With an altitude of more than 1200 metres, Bormio is often covered in a white blanket of snow in winter, making it suggestive to walk through the snow-covered streets of the historic centre or admire the lights of the town from the many panoramic terraces. Finally, it is worth mentioning the thermal baths of Bormio, already known in antiquity for their curative properties. According to some scholars, Pliny the Elder mentioned the waters of Bormio in his &#8220;Naturalis historia&#8221; and Cassiodorus, secretary to Theodoric, extolled their therapeutic id=\"bressanone-brixen-a-jewel-of-history-and-nature\"><strong>Bressanone-Brixen, a jewel of history and nature&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n<p>The oldest town in the Tyrolean region retains important traces of its past. Over the course of time, it was a stopover on the travels of emperors and became a magnificent Episcopal seat. Brixen\/Bressanone has enviable historical and architectural beauties: the square in front of the cathedral, the medieval old town, the arcades and decorated streets, the museum treasures, the craft tradition and the archaeological finds. Bressanone is also a university town, home to the Academic Theological Study at the Episcopal Major Seminary of Bressanone (since 1607) and, since 2001, to the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Bolzano. Finally, it is worth mentioning that Brixen is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Alps. The Plose ski resort is only 7 kilometres from the city centre. Here, tourists can enjoy 43 kilometres of slopes and a breath-taking view of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex Thanks to the Presena glacier, it is possible to ski as early as autumn.
