{"id":65189,"date":"2026-06-12T00:56:24","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T22:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/1000miglia.it\/?p=65189"},"modified":"2026-06-12T00:56:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T22:56:27","slug":"the-1000-miglia-2026-heads-for-the-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1000miglia.it\/en\/2026\/the-1000-miglia-2026-heads-for-the-capital\/","title":{"rendered":"The 1000 Miglia 2026 heads for the Capital"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>1000 Miglia 2026<\/strong> has completed its journey through Tuscany and reached the historic stronghold of <strong>Radicofani<\/strong>, the final outpost before the border with Lazio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After setting off at dawn from <strong>Montecatini Terme<\/strong> and stopping for lunch in the magnificent setting of Piazza del Campo in <strong>Siena<\/strong>, the cars faced the bends of the <strong>Val d&#8217;Orcia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day, which began with cool weather that made driving easier in the early hours, soon turned summery again. The effort was rewarded by the usual crowds of spectators, who lined the winding roads and the villages along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Today is a fantastic day. We set off in a lovely cool breeze, the ideal weather after yesterday\u2019s heat,\u201d says <strong>Carlo Gussalli Beretta<\/strong>, who completed two legs in car 1000. \u201cThis morning\u2019s passages were very exciting, and the arrival in Siena is one of the most special moments: Piazza del Campo, with the Italian flag on the ground and the classic cars, is even more beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis morning was incredible; we drove through beautiful towns and villages I\u2019d never visited before,\u201d echoed <strong>Melissa Satta<\/strong>, who shared the experience on board. \u201cAs well as the beauty of the race, the 1000 Miglia is a wonderful opportunity to get to know Italy inside out. You can really breathe in our history, and I love that so much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The morning began with the Time Trials on the walls of <strong>Lucca<\/strong>, followed by the Passage Controls in <strong>Pietrasanta<\/strong> and <strong>Forte dei Marmi<\/strong> and the picturesque passage through <strong>Pisa<\/strong>. After passing through <strong>Pontedera, Peccioli and Palaia<\/strong>, the convoy reached <strong>Siena<\/strong>. In the afternoon, the crews had to maintain their full concentration for a series of Time Trials and two Average Trials in Val d\u2019Orcia and along the Via Francigena, whilst in between there was time to admire <strong>Radicofani<\/strong> for the Passage Control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic cars are now heading towards the Capital, tackling the Time Trials at Montemaggiore before skirting Lake Bolsena for the Passage Controls at <strong>Capodimonte<\/strong> and <strong>Marta<\/strong>. After passing through <strong>Viterbo<\/strong> and the final Time Control at <strong>Ronciglione<\/strong>, the Red Arrow will make its entrance into <strong>Rome<\/strong> for the traditional parade along Via Veneto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The provisional classification<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The afternoon recordings confirm a fiercely contested battle for the lead. Brothers <strong>Juan and Margarita Tonconogy<\/strong> continue to set the bar extremely high at the top, closely followed in second place by the defending champions <strong>Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli<\/strong>. Meanwhile, <strong>Lorenzo and Mario Turelli<\/strong> remain firmly in third place on the provisional podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gran Turismo Experience leaderboard is topped by the crew of <strong>Ryotaro Shimizu and Jari-Matti Johannes Latvala<\/strong>.
