ALL’ESORDIO IL 1000 MIGLIA WARM UP AUSTRIA

Stamattina il via per i 40 equipaggi in gara, 600 chilometri in due tappe fra le bellezze del salisburghese e del Tirolo

The Red Arrow has also arrived in Austria: the 1000 Miglia Warm Up format, firmly established in the Washington D.C. area, with three precedents in Switzerland and one in the United Kingdom, is making its debut in the Salzburg and Tyrol regions.

Yesterday was dedicated to training on the Salzburgring circuit, unique for its location in a narrow Alpine valley. The Warm Up format is designed to prepare the foreign crews for the sporting part of the Most Beautiful Race in the World.

The parterre of cars taking part includes twelve of the most illustrious names in motorsport, from 1929 models such as the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato and the Lancia Lambda Torpedo 218, to the 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS, the “youngest” of the competing cars. Special mention for a 1958 Austin-Healey, a 1957 Triumph TR3 Sport and a Porsche 356.

At 9 a.m. this morning, the 40 participating cars, including 10 Porsches competing for victory in the Porsche Challenge, set off towards the German town of Anger, stopping at the Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk Museum. They continued on to Lienz,in East Tyrol, and arrived in Mittersill.

On Saturday 29, the convoy will travel through the Salzkammergut region. After stopping on the lakeside promenade in St. Gilgen, the crews will return to Salzburg. Here the cars will drive through the old town, ending the race at Mozartplatz. This will be followed by a presentation of the cars at the sumptuous Residenzplatz.

The first placed crew in the overall classification will be guaranteed admission to the 1000 Miglia 2025 and will be honoured in the Red Bull Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport, where the winning cars will be exhibited alongside the collection of historic aircraft, racing cars and helicopters.
