At eight in the morning of March 26, 1927: the first car participating in the initial Mille Miglia Cup departs. It is an Isotta Fraschini driven by Aymo Maggi and Bindo Maserati. Today, Mille Miglia turns 86 years old. From that day on, some of the greatest champions, most beautiful cars and legendary stories have touched the streets of the Red Arrow.

That edition, which was created by the Four Musketeers (Renzo Castagneto, Franco Mazzotti, Aymo Maggi and Giovanni Canestrini), was something extraordinary in Italy, where the roads were so very different from what they are today.

A Brescian OM 665 Superba driven by Ferdinando Minoja and Giuseppe Morandi won the race and did so in 21 hours and 4 minutes. 77 cars had taken off from the starting line but only 54 made it back to Brescia after a day of racing. Among these automobiles was a Bianchi driven by a certain Tazio Nuvolari who came in tenth at the finish line in Brescia.
