The Margiotta-Urbini crew wins the first Coppa delle Alpi by 1000 Miglia

From the third leg it had begun its ascent in the ranking and today the crew of the driver from Campobello di Mazara (TP), Nino Margiotta, who moved to Mondovì (CN) 10 years ago, driving a 1947 Volvo PV 444, together with Guido Urbini from Modena, won the Coppa delle Alpi, the first winter regularity race for vintage cars managed by 1000 Miglia Srl, a company that has been organizing the Red Arrow race since 2013 For three legs the pediatrician from Palermo Giovanni Moceri, with his 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia GT was leading the ranking and an all-Sicilian challenge was brought to life among the snowy Alps, but today he lost ground and slipped into sixth position. Despite everything he won the Italian Great Events Championship, of which the Coppa delle Alpi was the last race on the calendar. Nino Margiotta was given a hard time by the driver from San Nicolò, Piacenza, Gianmario Fontanella who drove a 1955 Porsche 356 A 1600 together with Anna Maria Covelli. Third place went to the expert couple from Bologna formed by Massimo Zanasi and Barbara Bertini in a 1958 Volvo Amazon P120. 45 cars participated in the Coppa delle Alpi 2019, which were built until 1976, and which competed for 1200 km in 4 legs along the Alps of Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, passing through 15 Alpine passes. For each leg, a trophy dedicated to the city of arrival (Brixen, Seefeld, Saint Moritz) was assigned. ‘It was a unique experience – said the managing director of 1000 Miglia srl Alberto Piantoni – to see these cars that have made history speed through the whiteness of the snowy mountains and breathtaking natural landscapes. After Saint Moritz, today the cars returned to Italy passing through Lake Livigno and the Montebello quarry in Pontresina where they ended the race in the centre of Ponte di Legno. In the evening, a spectacular climb to over 2,500 metres for the prize-giving ceremony in the unique scenery of the Presena Glacier at Passo del Tonale.

The first overall ranking competitors and the winners of the three city leg trophies, Brixen, Seefeld and St. Moritz will receive the guarantee of acceptance to the 1000 Miglia 2020.
