Juan and Margarita Tonconogy win the 1000 Miglia 2026

Juan and Margarita Tonconogy have won the 1000 Miglia 2026. At the wheel of their splendid 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Spider Zagato, the Argentine crew successfully defended their lead against attacks from their closest rivals, confirming their skill on the pressure switches right up to the finish line in Brescia.

For Juan Tonconogy, this is his fourth personal victory in the Red Arrow, following triumphs in 2013, 2016 and 2018, but it is his first ever victory alongside his sister Margarita. A historic feat that effectively brings to an end the extraordinary winning streak of Andrea Vesco, the undisputed master of the last six consecutive editions (from 2020 to 2025).

Taking the second step on the podium are Brescia’s Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Spider Zagato, co-protagonists of a battle that made this 1000 Miglia more thrilling than ever.

Third place overall went to Lorenzo and Mario Turelli, who were consistently solid and precise at the wheel of their 1929 O.M. 665 S MM Superba.

There were no surprises, however, in the Coppa delle Dame, which once again went to Silvia Marini, accompanied by Francesca Ruggeri in a 1947 Cisitalia 202 S MM Spider.

The circle thus closes where it all began. The 1000 Miglia 2026 convoy made its thrilling return to Brescia, passing the historic ramp on Viale Venezia after covering almost 2,000 kilometres of breathtaking roads.

Five intense legs that combined the technical challenge of 144 Time Trials and 8 Average Trials with the timeless beauty of the landscapes traversed, confirming the Red Arrow as the most beautiful race in the world.

Vittorino Battaglia and Giordano Mozzi triumphed in the Ferrari Tribute 1000 Miglia in a 2019 488 Spider, whilst Shimitzu Ryotaro and Jari-Matti Latvala came out on top in the Gran Turismo Experience.

A journey through Italy’s history and beauty

Setting off from Brescia under a blazing sun, the long convoy of over 430 crews embarked on a brand-new route, crossing the Val Trompia and Val Gobbia for the first time, with a Passage Control at the Beretta headquarters to celebrate its 500-year history, before being greeted by crowds in Lumezzane and on Lake Garda.

Having crossed the Veneto region, the convoy began its descent towards the Apennines, passing over the Abetone Pass at an altitude of 1,388 metres in a crisp breeze.

The third leg celebrated the enchantment of Tuscany and Lazio, from the Time Trials on the walls of Lucca to the spectacular lunch stop in Piazza del Campo in Siena, draped as is traditional in the Italian national flag.

The climb back towards the Adriatic in the fourth leg offered moments of rare intensity, such as the passage through the forecourt of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Porziuncola in Assisi to pay homage to St Francis eight hundred years after his death, the journey through the picturesque Gola del Furlo and the spectacular ascent into the heart of Mount Titano for the Passage Control in Piazza della Libertà in San Marino.

Finally, the last and decisive leg set off from Rimini. A leg that saw the convoy pass in front of the Castello Estense in Ferrara before enjoying a final lunch in the splendid setting of the Fruttiere at Palazzo Te in Mantua, welcomed by the warmth of the public in the historic centre. In the afternoon, before returning to Brescia, the cars tackled the final Passage Controls, passing through the 4th “Peschiera” Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment, Guidizzolo, Castiglione delle Stiviere and Montirone, until the final Time Control at 3 p.m., which served as a prelude to the parade of honour.

And thus ends the 99th edition of the 1000 Miglia. Now all eyes are already on 2027, the year of the Centenary. A race that will return to its traditional slot at the end of May, in the week from the 22nd to the 29th. The event promises a 1000 Miglia ready to deliver many more new features, but also the same thrilling excitement as always.
