A truly champion-like start for Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli: the multiple winners of the 1000 Miglia have claimed victory in the ninth edition of the Roberto Gaburri Trophy in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS with 23 penalty points. The crew prevailed on the pressure switches in the heart of Brescia, getting the better of the hundred cars entered for the 1000 Miglia and the Ferrari Tribute. The event’s podium saw Lorenzo and Mario Turelli in second place, 2 penalty points behind, and Alberto Aliverti and Francesco Polini in third with 28 penalty points.
The traditional prologue to the most beautiful race in the world, named in memory of the historic first President of 1000 Miglia Srl, officially launched the events of the forty-fourth historic re-enactment, transforming the debut of the Piazza Vittoria Village into an open-air stage. For the Brescia public, it was the first, thrilling taste of the race, bathed in sunshine, whilst for the participants, the event served as the ideal test to check the stopwatches and the reliability of the vehicles ahead of Tuesday’s official start.
The cars set off from the Village at 6.30 pm, winding their way through the streets of the historic centre to the Castle. The real challenge took place across the three Time Trials located between Corso Zanardelli, Via Brigida Avogadro and the Cidneo, culminating in a spectacular finish in a packed Piazza Paolo VI.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the Gaburri Trophy provided an opportunity to officially present the 2026 edition of the 1000 Miglia Charity, with La Zebra ODV once again taking centre stage this year. The goal is ambitious yet meaningful: to contribute to the creation of facilities dedicated to accommodating the families of young patients admitted to the Children’s Hospital of the ASST Spedali Civili in Brescia.
The evening was marked by moments of deep emotional engagement. On the tenth anniversary of his passing, the memory of Roberto Gaburri was intertwined with that of Giuseppe Cherubini, the historic “father” of the route and bound to Gaburri by a deep friendship: a tribute to two key figures who were able to transform their passion for motors into a legacy that today belongs to the whole community.
