I Luoghi della 1000 Miglia

Chiari

The city of Franco Mazzotti, one of the founders of 1000 Miglia

Chiari, located in the south-west of the Province of Brescia, in addition to the core of the historic centre, includes the outlying localities of San Bernardo, San Bernardino, Santellone, San Pietro and San Giovanni.

There are many theories as to the origin of the city’s name. The place name Chiari could in fact derive from the Latin word Clarus, referring to a probable Roman senator, perhaps a certain Clarius, or link its name to the clarity of the waters or the light colour of the bark of the poplars on the plain.

Chiari boasts a valuable artistic and monumental heritage. It preserves, in the characteristic circular layout of the historic centre, a medieval imprint with narrow streets converging towards the central square, named after Giuseppe Zanardelli and crossed by the cars of the 1000 Miglia on Saturday 18 June 2022 during the fourth leg.
