A medieval village nestled in the countryside, near the banks of the River Oglio
The village of Soncino is characterised by its important historical, architectural and environmental heritage. Its undisputed reputation has led it to be included for several years now in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy and in the select list of the most beautiful villages in the world.
It is a medieval village nestled in the countryside, near the banks of the River Oglio. The area was once covered by marshes and is still rich in springs. The village is surrounded by imposing walls, inside which there are churches, palaces, ancient mills, the recently restored Civic Tower and an enormous spinning mill… testifying to the importance of the place over the centuries. The showpiece of the village is undoubtedly the monumental complex of the Rocca Sforzesca, which is over 550 years old (1473-74).
Visitors to our village can spend a day immersed in history, admiring the architectural beauty (churches, cloisters, a rare heptagonal bell tower, the Silk Museum and the Printing Museum, as well as the Aquaria Archaeological Museum) and enjoying the numerous restaurants and bars. In addition, there is a wide range of events, themed festivals, food festivals and cultural initiatives involving the entire town. For these reasons, tourists from near and far will discover a medieval village with a contemporary feel. In short, an open-air museum waiting to be discovered.
